Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem along the Ujung Genteng-Pangumbahan coast in Sukabumi is experiencing degradation due to land-use conversion, coastal erosion, and the pressures of mass tourism, while the local wisdom that has long served as a bulwark of conservation is beginning to erode under the influence of modernization. This study aims to identify the local wisdom values that remain intact, analyze their contribution to mangrove ecological resilience, and formulate a community-based policy integration model. Using an ecological ethnographic qualitative approach with a single case study, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, focus group discussions (FGDs), and documentation. Four local wisdom values (pamali, Nadran, traditional zoning, sasi) were identified as contributing to the stability of mangrove cover and the reduction of erosion. However, tourism pressure and the low transmission of these values to younger generations remain major challenges. A tripartite co-management model (traditional leaders, village government, tourism operators) was formulated with quarterly coordination mechanisms, customary sanctions, and revenue sharing from ecotourism fees to achieve sustainable mangrove management.
