Abstract

This study aims to analyze how santri’s ecological awareness is strengthened through integrated fiqh and akhlaq learning based on Islamic eco-theology at Pondok Pesantren Persatuan Islam Rancabango Tarogong, Garut, West Java. The study is grounded in the importance of Islamic education in responding to the environmental crisis by internalizing religious values that emphasize human responsibility as khalifah on earth. Fiqh and akhlaq learning are viewed as strategically important for building santri’s ecological awareness, especially when they are integrated with the principles of Islamic eco-theology, which positions nature as a trust (amanah) that must be preserved. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and then analyzed thematically. The findings show that integrated fiqh and akhlaq learning based on Islamic eco-theology in this pesantren is implemented through the cultivation of cleanliness, resource conservation, environmental care, and moral responsibility toward nature. The integration occurs through instructional content, the exemplary conduct of teachers, the habituation of environmentally friendly behavior, and dormitory and pesantren activities that support ecological practice. The findings also indicate that this learning model improves santri’s understanding of the relationship between Islamic teachings and environmental preservation, strengthens their environmental attitudes, and shapes more consistent ecological behavior in everyday life. Thus, integrated fiqh and akhlaq learning based on Islamic eco-theology has proven effective in strengthening santri’s ecological awareness while contributing to the development of Islamic education that is responsive to contemporary environmental issues.
